For those Cumberbitches still in mourning from Benedict Cumberbatch's super suave engagement announcement, we hope you are sitting down. The rumors are true… the Sherlock star is going to be a father!
"I am delighted to confirm that Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter are expecting their first child. They are both over the moon," the actor's publicist said in a statement.
Sophie Hunter sparked pregnancy rumors earlier this month when she attended the 2015 Palm Springs Film Festival Gala with her dashing fiancé in a long, bump accentuating dress.
The news comes just two months after Cumberbatch, 38, announced he was engaged to Hunter, a 36-year-old actress and director, in The Times of London: "Mr B.T. Cumberbatch and Miss S.I. Hunter. The engagement is announced between Benedict, son of Wanda and Timothy Cumberbatch of London, and Sophie, daughter of Katharine Hunter of Edinburgh and Charles Hunter of London."
The Imitation Game actor and Hunter met in 2009 while shooting the thriller Burlesque Fairytales; however, they were only confirmed as a couple after they were photographed together at the French Open in April.
Although the tight-lipped Golden Globe nominee rarely discusses his personal life, Benedict did tell Elle last year he would like to be "surrounded by family" 30 years from now.
"I can imagine I'll look back at this point in my life and think: 'Wow that was really extraordinary,'" he said. "But at the same time I hope I'm looking back and going, 'Oh, that was the moment I got on with life and realized things beyond myself.' Without using words like 'marriage,' 'children' and 'family' — although I have just used those words — put it this way, I hope I've got other people to look back with me at that point. I hope I'm surrounded by family."
He's certainly on his way.
