E! was first to break the news.

Cumberbatch and Hunter, 38, welcomed their first child together, son Christopher (who they call Kit), in June 2015, four months after their Valentine’s Day wedding. The couple met in 2009 on the set of the thriller Burlesque Fairytales and announced their engagement five years later in British newspaper The Times.

"Mr B.T. Cumberbatch and Miss S.I. Hunter," the clipping read. "The engagement is announced between Benedict, son of Wanda and Timothy Cumberbatch of London, and Sophie, daughter of Katharine Hunter of Edinburgh and Charles Hunter of London.” Two months later, they revealed that Hunter was pregnant. "I am delighted to confirm that Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter are expecting their first child,” a rep told Us at the time. "They are both over the moon.”

Earlier this year, the actor opened up to Vanity Fair about fatherhood. “Having a baby — it’s massive,” he told the magazine. “And on a very unexpected level. Suddenly I understood my parents much more profoundly than I ever had before.”

The Sherlock actor also added that fatherhood helped him prepare for new professional roles. "I was expecting, with Hamlet, that it might be a hindrance to be a father, because it’s all about being a son,” he said. "But it’s the opposite. You understand much more about being a son, becoming a father.”
