Who to choose?! JoJo Fletcher was extremely torn between her final two men, Jordan Rodgers and Robby Hayes, but the 25-year-old eventually accepted a proposal from the former NFL quarterback.
While Hayes had been the first to tell her he loves her, Rodgers was the winner of the coveted first impression rose. Fletcher’s family also liked Hayes better than Rodgers, who failed to ask her parents’ permission for her hand in marriage, and her mom expressed fear that Rodgers was a “playboy.”
After Rodgers redeemed himself by making a last-minute phone call to her dad, Fletcher made her final decision. She broke Hayes’ heart by telling him although she loves him, she can’t give him her final rose. “Robby, I woke up this morning wanting it to be you. Every day I’ve been wanting it to be you. I fell in love with you, but for some reason my heart is somewhere else,” she told him before sending him home.
The ending will go down in Bachelor and Bachelorette history as a nail-biter. Us Weekly rounded up seven other times the Bachelor or Bachelorette was incredibly torn between two suitors.
—Ben Higgins, Bachelor season 20
Higgins’ infamous two “I love you’s” to winner Lauren Bushnell and Fletcher left viewers shocked and confused over who he was going to choose. He later defended his two declarations saying, “I don’t regret being honest.”
—Kaitlyn Bristowe, Bachelorette season 11
After Bristowe admitted to having sex with runner-up Nick Viall before the fantasy suites dates and gushed about their incredible chemistry, she eventually accepted a proposal from Shawn Booth.
—Sean Lowe, Bachelor season 17
Lowe loved his runner-up too! While saying goodbye to Lindsay Yenter in the finale, he told her, “I love you. That’s the hardest part. I love you. I know I do. I’m sorry.” He popped the question to Catherine Giudici, and they lived happily ever after. They welcomed their first child, Samuel, last month.
—Jake Pavelka, Bachelor season 14
Pavelka was “so confused” even though his family was totally Team Tenley Molzahn over his season’s villain Vienna Girardi. Although Molzahn clearly seemed like the better match, and everyone expected her to leave with a diamond ring, Pavelka got down on one knee and asked Girardi to marry him. (They bitterly parted ways a few months after their finale aired.)
— Jason Mesnick, Bachelor season 13
A change of heart. He must have been very torn between his two ladies because after he originally proposed to Melissa Rycroft, Mesnick shocked viewers by revealing he had changed his mind on After the Final Rose. He broke up with his fiancée on live TV and told runner-up Molly Malaney that he made a mistake and wanted to be with her. Now, the couple are married and share 3-year-old daughter Riley.
—Charlie O’Connell, Bachelor season 7
This Bachelor was so torn that he told both Sarah Brice and Krisily Kennedy that he wanted to continue dating them after the show. At ATFR, he asked Brice to keep being his girlfriend. (They called it quits in 2007, but later reunited before splitting for good in 2010.)
—Alex Michel, Bachelor season 1
The original Bachelor’s wavering decision even shocked host Chris Harrison. While he told Harrison he was going to propose to Trista Rehn, he changed his mind at the last minute and instead picked Amanda Marsh. (The pair ended things not long after viewers saw the finale.)
