Billy Bush is speaking out about speculation he had a tense exchange with author Amy Griffin at jewelry designer Jennifer Meyer’s wedding earlier this month.

“I’m gonna clear up the story of my encounter with Amy Griffin,” Bush, 55, said on the Monday, October 19, episode of his “Hot Mics” show. “From the moment I arrived in Lanai [in Hawaii] on Friday afternoon, Amy was obsessed with me. I could feel her glare all over me. And she was telling anyone who would listen not to talk to me.”

Prior to the interaction, Bush had investigated Griffin’s legal saga surrounding her 2025 memoir, The Tell. After Griffin detailed surviving sexual abuse in the book, news broke that the author’s childhood classmate had filed an invasion of privacy lawsuit and claimed the memoir told their story. Griffin has denied the allegations and sued the former classmate for defamation in June.

At the wedding, Bush recalled seeing Griffin because of the “bright red dress” she had worn to the event and claimed that Demi Moore was encouraging the author to speak to the former Access Hollywood anchor.

“I hear her and Demi Moore talking not far away. And Demi’s saying, ‘It’s OK, you can go talk to him,’” he said. “Like, ‘Amy, it’s all right, stop.’ This whole scene is unfolding. And then finally, she comes at me. I can see that she’s coming. And she stumbles, and her purse spills open entirely. Everything. Mints are all over the place, and lipstick — everything is on the lawn. And Demi is helping her, and they’re gathering up their things.”

When the pair finally spoke, Bush claimed Griffin was “sweating and shaking” during the interaction.

“She says, ‘You don’t know me,’” he alleged. “And I say, ‘No, I know you. You’re Amy Griffin.’ And she says, ‘No, you don’t know me.’”

“I’m like, ‘OK, I can see you’re upset. I’m sorry to see that. But I can tell you, I don’t think this is the time nor the place to have this discussion. I’d love to talk to you on the record and/or off. Either way, at another time, but not now,’” he recalled responding to her.

Bush alleged that the pair discussed his investigation into her memoir, and he claimed to be “calm and cool the whole time.” After the interaction, Bush alleged that other guests at the event approached him to ask about the exchange.

“Everyone kept coming up to me later,” he said, alleging that they said, “’Holy s***, what just went down? Oh my God, are you OK? You handled that beautifully.’”

When they were approaching the main reception, Bush claimed that Griffin went up to his girlfriend, Ali, and asked, “’How could you be with someone who’s abusing me? … He’s doing this for his entertainment.’”

Bush continued, “I mean, the nerve. This is another woman’s wedding. Imagine making it all about you, right? And the narcissism, assuming because of her great wealth and prominence that everyone should just swallow what she’s serving. I’m interested in the truth.”

The next day, Bush claimed he spoke to Griffin’s husband, John, for about an hour. “I felt that he was nice, he was reasonable, even-tempered,” he said, “and let’s just be real, husband of the century.”
