If there’s anyone who knows what Gwen Stefani’s going through, it’s her costar boyfriend, Blake Shelton. Both Voice coaches went through painful divorces earlier this year, but have found love again in each other.
On Monday, Nov. 30, the No Doubt frontwoman, 46, performed her emotional breakup anthem “Used to Love You” on the NBC reality series, and her proud boyfriend, 39, gave her a standing ovation.
Following the show, Shelton told Extra, “Right when she wrote the song she was like, ‘My gosh, I put exactly what I wanted to say into a song.’ Sometimes it’s hard to put it exactly how you want to say it when it’s that personal to you, and so she was so excited that she got that out, and then it ends up being this smash song that it’s turning into.”
The proud country crooner couldn’t resist bragging about his new lady love, saying, “She deserves it. If you go through whatever she went through to write that song, at least she’s getting something good, positive out of it.”
Shelton and his wife of four years, Miranda Lambert, divorced this summer, around the same time that Stefani and her husband of 13 years, Gavin Rossdale, called it quits. Us Weekly broke the story that the Bush rocker had been cheating on his wife with the family’s nanny Mindy Mann.
