Britney Spears: ‘I Really Don’t Remember’ What ‘It’s Britney, Bitch!’ Is From

Oops! Everyone knows the iconic phrase “It’s Britney, bitch!” But when it comes to its origins, Britney Spears revealed in a December 5 radio interview that she is a little unsure.

“I really don’t remember. … I think we were in the studio, and me and [will.i.am] were just playing and it came out,” the 35-year-old told 99.7 Now’s Fernando and Greg. However, 2007’s “Gimme More” was actually produced by Danja and Keri Hilson, not the Black Eyed Peas’ frontman. Spears first collaborated with will.i.am in 2012 for their song “Scream & Shout.”

Spears’ downward spiral in 2007 could be to blame for her fuzzy memory. The same year “Gimme More” hit radio stations, the Louisiana native temporarily lost custody of her two kids with ex-husband Kevin Federline —Sean and Jayden— shaved her head and had multiple stints in rehab.

Spears spoke of her tumultuous 20s on British talk show Lorraine in September. “My 20s were horrible! [Being] in my teens was fun, but I like my 30s. … You know who you really are.”

This isn’t the first time time Spears’ memory has failed her this year. Ahead of her Sunday, August 28, MTV VMAs performance, she admitted in an interview with Elvis Duran and the Z Morning Zoo that she can’t remember her 1999 VMAs performance.

“I think the whole setup was a classroom, and my four main dancers were in the front at their desk and I came out of my locker,” she said, correctly recalling the details of a performance she actually doesn’t remember. “You know what, I don’t remember at all. I have no recollection. I couldn’t tell you anything about it.”

Just a few weeks earlier on July 31, the popstar revealed she’d like to sit next to Taylor Swift on a 24-hour flight to Sydney “because I’ve never met her before.” But the two singers had met two different times, in 2008 and in 2003.

Meanwhile, 2016 has been a memorable one for the Grammy winner. In addition to the debut of her ninth album, Glory, the singer received the Millennium Award at the Billboard Music Awards in May and continues to perform at her Las Vegas show, Britney: Piece of Me. And on December 2, the pop star celebrated her 35th birthday by performing at 102.7 Kiis FM’s Jingle Ball, where host Ryan Seacrest wished her a happy birthday and surprised her with a cake.
