Bruce Jenner Given Award by Kris Jenner: Talks Split, Explains Ponytail

Bruce Jenner and Kris Jenner on September 15, 2012 in Beverly Hills
"I see her everyday. We are doing absolutely great," says Bruce Jenner about his estranged wife Kris Jenner.

They put the A in amicable. A ponytail-clad Bruce Jenner was all smiles when he was presented with the Legendary Athlete Award by his wife of 22 years Kris Jenner (from whom he confirmed his separation in early October) at the closing ceremony of the All Sports Film Festival on Monday, Nov. 11.

Us Weekly caught up with the former Olympian — who was joined by his daughters Kendall and Kylie and son Brandon at the Hollywood event — on the red carpet, covering everything from the reality TV star's hair to his recent separation from Kris.

Bruce, who was wearing his wedding ring while Kris, 58, opted to do without at the ceremony, told Us that he and his wife, post-split "get along great!" In fact, "fabulously!" Although the two live apart — Bruce, 64, lives in Malibu, while Kris calls Calabasas home — he said, "I see her everyday. We are doing absolutely great."

He added to Us, "I was actually over at the other house today and there were like 20 people over at the house and I’m thinking, 'I've got a nice quiet and peaceful place in Malibu, but yeah it works great and my kids come and its all good.'" The reality TV star said his biggest regret is that his ten kids and grandkids were unable to see him at the peak of his athleticism back in 1976 — "besides on YouTube," he added. "I keep thinking to myself, 'Thank God I was able to pull it off and move on.' Now that I’m older I realize that it’s not that easy to win that thing."

"That's always been a disappointment that they didn't see their dad when he was 26, taking on the world," Jenner shared in his acceptance speech. "But you know that’s the way life is! I'm glad they are here tonight." The dad paused in a sentimental moment to honor his late father — a World War II veteran — at the event, which fell on Veteran's Day.

Although Jenner's children were not around in the '70s to marvel at their dad's sporting triumphs, he still intends to maintain his youthfulness with a hip hairstyle. He told Us that the inspiration behind his longer 'do was turning a year older: "I turned 64 two weeks ago and that I still have hair to grow!" he exclaimed over his full head of hair. "I’m celebrating, yeah!"

When asked what the kids think of the ponytail, Jenner joked, "It’s driving them all crazy! It’s absolutely wonderful." While the other Kardashian and Jenner kids may be bothered by their dad's 'do, a bun-wearing Brandon, 32, told Us, "I do like it. I want him to be able to grow his hair and do whatever he wants to do." His musician son added, "Full support."

Meanwhile, Kris expressed her support for Bruce on stage, calling her husband of 22 years, "my best friend," and giving him a big hug before the room. "You are so truly deserving of this legendary award tonight," she said in the introduction. "We love you, Bruce! Congratulations!"
