Taylor Swift 2.0? Caroline Wozniacki and golf pro Rory McIlroy called off their engagement in May — but not in person. Wozniacki recently revealed in depth with Graham Bensinger that the FedEx Cup winner broke up with her over the phone.
"I was shocked. I thought at least it would be face-to-face or something but there was nothing," Wozniacki, 24, recalled, via The Guardian. "It was a phone call and I didn't hear from him again."
"It was very hard because he made it very public from the start," she continued. "He put out a press release and all of that so it just got put in my face." (Swift famously told Ellen DeGeneres in 2008 that Joe Jonas broke up with her in a 27 second phone call. Adam Levine was also dumped by model Anne V via a public statement in April 2012.)
Indeed, after proposing on New Year's Eve in Sydney, 25-year-old McIlroy announced the couple's split in May. "The wedding invitations issued at the weekend made me realize that I wasn't ready for all that marriage entails," he said in a statement.
"I wish Caroline all the happiness she deserves and thank her for the great times we've had," he added at the time. "I will not be saying anything more about our relationship in any setting."
Wozniacki may have never heard from McIlroy again, but that hasn't stopped her from jumping back into dating. The 5' 10'' athlete — who recently celebrated opponent Serena Williams' win at the US Open — appeared to throw shade at her 5' 9'' ex when she explained what she's now looking for in a partner.
"I would like a taller guy so I can wear heels," she said. "I'm pretty strict with my box ticking. I look for someone who is honest, fun to be around and doesn't take himself too seriously."
