A love to last a lifetime. Celine Dion shared a touching throwback photo of herself with her late husband, René Angélil, via Facebook on Wednesday, February 3, just ahead of a memorial held in his honor in Las Vegas.
In the sweet picture, which was posted without a caption, Dion, 47, has her arms wrapped tightly around Angélil, her eyes shut. The pair first met in 1980, when Angélil was Dion’s manager, and they wed in December 1994.
According to Dion’s Facebook page, a memorial commemorating the late music producer’s life will be held at Caesars Palace later in the evening, and will be live-streamed for fans around the world.
“The event will feature a series of guest speakers celebrating the life of René Angélil through stories and reminiscences,” the message reads. “We hope you will join for the Celebration via live stream on www.reneangelilcelebrationoflife.com.”
Angélil died at his home in Nevada at the age of 73 on Thursday, January 14, following a long battle with throat cancer. He was honored during a memorial service at the Notre-Dame Basilica in Montreal one week later, and laid to rest at a national funeral the next day.
Dion broke her silence following Angélil’s funeral with a heartfelt post to her website on Friday, January 29.
“My family and I are deeply touched by the outpouring of love and support from so many people who have touched our lives during these past few days,” she wrote. “We have felt your love for René, and your prayers and compassion have helped us during this most difficult time … more than you’ll ever know. I thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
