Celine Dion: Rene Was the Only Man I Ever Kissed

The power of love. In a recent interview with CBS, Celine Dion admitted that in all her life, her late husband, René Angélil, was the only man she kissed.

“Before he left, it was very, very difficult for all of us,” Dion, 48, told CBS Sunday Morning in an interview celebrating her 1,000th performance at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. “For me especially, and my children, to see the man of my life die a little bit more every day. And when he left, it was kind of a relief for me that the man that I love, the only man that I kissed, the only man that I loved — yeah, I never kissed another man in my life. So the man of my life was my partner, and we were one. So when he stopped suffering, I said to myself, ‘He’s OK. And he deserves not to suffer.'”

When asked if she hopes too fall in love again one day, the five-time Grammy winner, who shared three sons with Angélil, said, “Not now. Uh-uh. … I love. I love. I love him. I’m still in love with him. And I have the love of my children. I have the love of my fans. I love the people that I work with. So my life is not empty of love.”

And of course, she has her undying love for her husband. “There’s a song from Sia, ‘I go to sleep and imagine that you’re there with me.’ And I go to bed with him. And I come on stage with him. And so, I’m still married to him,” she said.

The “My Heart Will Go On” singer also reminisced about the first time she met her husband, who would go on to become her manager, at just 12 years old. “I thought he was very beautiful,” she said. “He looked great. I felt confident that this man was not treating me as a, ‘Oh, hi, little pumpkin.’ Or, ‘Hi, little sweetie,’ or like a little baby.”

The pair’s professional relationship turned personal when Dion was 19. They wed in 1994 and were married for 21 years, until Angélil lost his long battle with throat cancer this past January.
