Chad Lowe’s longtime best friend, Chris Ufland, has reacted to the tragic news of the death of the 24 actor’s 13-year-old daughter, Fiona Lowe.
“My best friend for 50 years has gone thru something unimaginable. My heart goes out to you and the family,” Ufland, 58, wrote via Instagram on Wednesday, September 30. “This feels incredibly personal to me. Just love my brother.”
Alongside a photo of himself and Chad, 58, the Criminal Minds and Hawaii Five-0 actor encouraged anyone struggling to “reach out” to a “loved one” so they can “find love and support.”
A spokesperson for Chad and wife Kim Painter confirmed their daughter’s death in a statement to multiple media outlets on Wednesday. (Los Angeles medical examiner records obtained by Us confirmed that Fiona died at a hospital on Tuesday, September 29. A postmortem exam is scheduled and an investigation into the case remains open.)
“We are deeply heartbroken by the loss of our beloved Fiona,” the couple said. “She was adored by her sisters and she was deeply loved by her parents. In fact, she was the light of our lives.”
The Lowes went on to say, “Her passing is devastating for our entire family and we ask for prayers and privacy at this time. If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health, please reach out to the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988.”
Less than a year before her death, Chad celebrated Fiona “officially becoming a teenager” on her 13th birthday in November 2025. (Chad is the younger brother of Rob Lowe, who, for his part, shares two sons, Matthew, 33, and John, 30, with wife Sheryl Berkoff.)
“Keep dancing through life FiBear! Love you soooo much!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️,” Chad wrote to his daughter via Instagram last year.
Chad and Kim, 52, are also parents to daughters Mabel, 17, and Nixie, 10. The Lowe family was among numerous residents in the Los Angeles area to lose their home when wildfires spread through the region in January 2025.

“This is what remains of 10 years of building our lives. Our hearts are broken, but we are comforted by all the well wishes and offers of assistance,” Lowe wrote alongside a photo of the rubble of their former home at the time. “We are OK and will be OK. We have each other. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers.”
In light of Fiona’s death, Chad’s father, Charles “Chuck” Lowe, shared a touching tribute to his late granddaughter via Instagram on Wednesday.
Chuck, 86, posted a photo of her swimming in a pool, adding in the caption, “Rest in peace sweet Fiona.”
