A former manager at the Australian nightclub where Ruby Rose claims Katy Perry sexually assaulted her 16 years ago has weighed in on the situation.

The former boss of Melbourne’s Spice Market told the Herald Sun on Tuesday, April 14, that he remembered Perry, 41, and Rose, 40, arriving together at the hot spot on the night in question in 2010. The pair and a few others were roped off in their own area of the club, so the manager — who was not named — was unaware of any alleged assault.

“It was a security nightmare because there were 600 people there and Katy kept coming out and dancing with everybody and going right in the middle of the mosh pit,” he explained. “[Rose and Perry] were drunk; they weren’t paralytic or anything, just like any other person drinking at a nightclub.”

The man added that management knew that Perry and Rose were public figures and “didn’t want someone taking photos of them drunk like that,” so the women were escorted out of a back fire exit and into the same car. The manager said he believed they were headed to a hotel.

Us Weekly reached out to reps for Perry and Rose for comment.

On Sunday, April 12, Rose claimed via a series of Threads posts that Perry assaulted her during a night out years ago.

“Katy Perry sexual [sic] assaulted me at spice market nightclub in Melbourne. Who gives a s*** what she thinks,” Rose wrote. “After it I threw up on her. I told the story publicly but changed it to be a ‘funny little drunk story’ because I didn’t know how else to handle it.”

Rose further alleged that Perry “later agreed to help me get my US visa. So I kept it a secret. But I DID tell yall she wasn’t a good person. Instead I got attacked by … Everyone.”

Describing the alleged incident, Rose wrote, “She saw me ‘resting’ on my best friends lap to avoid her and bent down, pulled her underwear to the side and rubbed her disgusting vagina on my face until my eyes snapped open and I projectile vomitted [sic] on her.”

Rose later revealed that she has since spoken to authorities about the alleged incident.

Perry denied the allegations in a statement on Monday, April 13, calling Rose’s claims “not only categorically false” but also “dangerous reckless lies.”

“Ms. Rose has a well-documented history of making serious public allegations on social media against various individuals, claims that have repeatedly been denied by those named,” a rep for Perry told Us Weekly.

Rose shared an update on Tuesday after filing a police report.

“As of this afternoon, I have finalized all of my reports,” she wrote via Threads. “This means I am no longer able to comment, repost, or talk publicly about any of those cases, or the individuals involved. It’s going to look like I am ignoring everything from supportive messages, to other people’s experiences, but I’m not. This is a standard request from the police and in many ways, quite the relief.”

Victoria Police in Australia confirmed to Us in the early hours of Wednesday, April 15, that they have launched an investigation.

“Melbourne Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team (SOCIT) detectives are investigating a historical sexual assault that occurred in Melbourne in 2010,” a rep said. “Police have been told the incident occurred at a licensed premises in Melbourne’s CBD.”
