For Nashville fans, news of the beloved ABC series’ cancellation could easily inspire the saddest of country songs. However, Connie Britton (who plays singer Rayna Jaymes) is looking back at her time on the show with a smile on her face.

“You know, I was not necessarily surprised,” the actress, 49, told Entertainment Tonight at the GLAAD Media Awards in New York City on Saturday, May 14. “And, so, I try to really put a silver lining on it and just say, ‘Hey, we got four years out of it and I really, really value the experience.’”

Asked about the possibility of the show being picked up by a streaming service such as Hulu or Netflix, Britton did not shut down the idea. “You never know,” she added to ET. Nashville premiered in 2012 and ran for four seasons. ABC announced that the drama would be dropped from its roster of programming after its fourth season finale, which airs on Wednesday, May 25.

Britton also spoke about how her Nashville costar Hayden Panettiere — who announced on May 12 that she’d be entering rehab again for an ongoing battle with postpartum depression — is holding up since the show got axed.

“I haven’t [spoken to Panettiere] since we wrapped but I know she’s gonna be great,” she said of the young mom. “She’s doing great.”

The 26-year-old Heroes alum (who portrays country starlet Juliette Barnes on Nashville) took to Twitter last Thursday to let fans know that she is working hard to get healthy.

“The postpartum depression I have been experiencing has impacted every aspect of my life,” she wrote. “Rather than stay stuck due to unhealthy coping mechanisms I have chosen to take time to reflect holistically on my health and life. Wish me luck!”

As Us Weekly previously reported, Panettiere first checked into a treatment facility last year following the December 2014 birth of her daughter, Kaya, whom she shares with fiancé Wladimir Klitschko.
