But will he babysit? Tom Bergeron is elated about Peta Murgatroyd and Maksim Chmerkovskiy’s baby news. The Dancing With the Stars cohost opened up about the New Zealand native’s pregnancy — namely, her hormones — in a new interview with Good Morning America.
“At the end of the season, if you just said hello to Peta, [she’d] start weeping,” Bergeron, 61, joked to GMA’s Lara Spencer on Monday, July 4. “That’s going to be a good-looking kid.”
Bergeron isn’t the only one to congratulate the pair. Murgatroyd’s BFF, fellow DWTS pro Sharna Burgess, tweeted about the news late last month.
“Finally we can tell the world!!” the 31-year-old wrote at the time. “Love you both beyond and I can’t wait to see you grow as parents.”
Us Weekly confirmed in May that Murgatroyd, 29, and the Ukrainian hunk, 36, were expecting their first child together. The pair met on the ABC series and have been dating on and off since 2012. Chmerkovskiy popped the question during a performance of Sway at the Olympia Theater in Miami in December 2015.
“When we dated in 2012, we used to talk about [getting married] all the time. It was just something that, I don’t know, it was just like it was going to happen,” Murgatroyd told Us in February. “We just took a little detour for a year.”
The couple gushed about becoming parents via Instagram last week. “We couldn’t be happier,” the mom-to-be captioned a bare baby bump pic on June 29. Chmerkovskiy shared a photo of their baby’s sonogram and added: “Put your hand up if you’re a #babyChmerkovskiy and you can’t wait to drive your parents crazy! #cantwait #inlove #thatprofilethough.”
