Emma Watson told reporters that she watched a lot of reality TV in order to prepare for role in upcoming film The Bling Ring.

Emma Watson took a bit of an unorthodox approach when she studied up for her role as a troubled L.A. teen in upcoming Sofia Coppola flick The Bling Ring. The Perks of Being a Wallflower actress, 23, told reporters at the Cannes Film Festival premiere that she watched plenty of reality TV in order to "understand the psychology" of her character. "I watched a lot of Keeping Up with the Kardashians and The Hills, and I tried to understand the psychology of this kind of girl as much as possible," she said. "I didn't want her to be just a parody. The accent was hard as it was a particular kind of dialect. I also thought a lot about what her parents must have been like."

The film follows the real-life story of a group of fame-obsessed teenagers who track down and rob celebrity homes. Watson plays sassy teen Nicki, who joins up with her pals to steal from the homes of celebs like Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan.

"I want to rob," she says at one point during the film's trailer.

The former Harry Potter actress said she's being careful not to overdo her performance, however. "This really isn't a heist movie," she said. "It was about how these kids wanted to pretend for just two hours or so that they were actually Paris Hilton and living that life."
