They grow up so fast! Ethan Hawke and his ex-wife, Uma Thurman, are proud of their oldest daughter, Maya Thurman-Hawke. The actor revealed to Us Weekly exclusively in a new interview on Thursday, May 5, where their 17-year-old girl is going to college.
“My oldest daughter is just going to Juilliard,” Hawke, 45, told Us at the Cinema Society screening of Maggie’s Plan in NYC. Hawke shares both Maya and her brother, Levon, 14, with Thurman. He’s also dad to his young daughters, Indiana and Clementine, with his second wife, Ryan.
Hawke was married to his Gattaca costar for seven years before they split in 2005. Thurman is also mom to 3-year-old daughter Luna, whom she shares with her former billionaire fiancé Arpad Busson.
According to the star, his kids are interested in following in the footsteps of their famous parents. “Yeah, they are looking at me,” Hawke told Us. “I don’t know if she looks to me for advice, but she can, you know? Eighteen-year-olds want to find their own way!”
It remains unclear whether Maya will live with her NYC-based parents or at the school’s on-campus dorms on NYC’s Upper West Side. Thurman most recently told the New York Times that she is selling her Manhattan duplex, which is nestled on the swanky, private Gramercy Park, for $6.25 million. Hawke lives in Brooklyn’s Boerum Hill neighborhood.
The Juilliard School is a performing arts conservatory that only accepts top-notch talent. It has less than a 10 percent acceptance rate. Famous alums of the performing arts institution include cellist Yo-Yo Ma, Viola Davis and the late Robin Williams.
