Family and friends gathered in Los Angeles on Monday night to say goodbye to Michael Jackson.
Jackson's mother, Katherine, and his siblings were among the intimate group at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
At around 7 p.m., Jackson's body was driven to the Hall of Liberty building for what sources tell Usmagazine.com was a viewing. Bodyguards attempted to shield the draped casket from the view of overhead helicopters and photographers.
Fans will get a chance to say goodbye to the King of Pop at a public memorial service to be held at L.A.'s Staples Center on Tuesday.
The service will take place at the same venue – which has a capacity of 20,000 – where Jackson rehearsed for his London concert tour just two days before he died on June 25 at the age of 50.
