What in the world? A Florida man has been arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon, after tossing a live alligator into a Wendy's drive-thru window. (Yes, you read that right.)
The man, 23-year-old Joshua James, brought the man-eating reptile to a Wendy's location in Royal Palm Beach, Florida. The incident actually took place in October, but the story is making headlines this week after U.S. Marshals took James into custody, and a judge charged him on Tuesday, February 9.
According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, which spoke to local NBC affiliate, WPTV, James first picked the gator up on the side of a highway in his truck. Once he received his soft drink at the Wendy's window, he reached into the back of his car and threw the gator into the window. No further details on James' motive or state of mind have been revealed.
The gator itself was 3-and-a-half feet, and it appears in photos taken inside the restaurant.
On Tuesday, a judge ordered the culprit to stay away from all Wendy's locations. He is also to avoid any contact with animals besides his mom's dog. The judge also ordered he undergo a mental health evaluation and is not allowed to possess any weapons.
His bond was set at $6,000. If James fails a random drug and alcohol test, it will be rescinded.
As for the gator itself? The critter was released in a nearby canal.
