Somebody start the campfire! In honor of National S’mores Day, the Girl Scouts organization announced the addition of two new s’mores-flavored cookies to its 2017 lineup.
The first treat is a graham cracker sandwich cookie with a chocolate and marshmallow filling. The second is a crispy graham cookie double dipped in a crème icing and enrobed in a chocolatey coating.
The chocolate-coated s’mores cookie is vegan and is free of artificial colors, preservatives and partially hydrogenated oils, while the sandwich cookie is free of artificial flavors, artificial colors, high fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated oils and partially hydrogenated oils.
The Girl Scout S’mores™ cookies will be the first new additions to the organization’s lineup, which also includes the beloved Thin Mints and Samoas, since 2015’s Rah-Rah Raisins, Toffee-tastic and Trios were unveiled. Both s’mores cookies will be released in 2017.
To celebrate the new cookies, Girl Scout councils around the United States are hosting campfires, where communicates can come together to make s’mores and learn about the Girl Scouts organization.
Girl Scouts are no stranger to to the gooey campfire treat. According to ABC News, one of the first recipes for s’mores was published in a 1925 Girl Scout Leader magazine.
“Toast the marshmallows until they are pale brown and ‘gooey.’ Then make a sandwich of the two crackers and half a chocolate bar and put the marshmallow in between. Good!” the recipe, which was called “Somemore” at the time, read.
When consumers purchase a box of Girl Scout S’mores™ cookies or any other variety of Girl Scout Cookies, they are investing in a girl’s future and helping power Girl Scout programming locally for nearly 2 million girls.
