Gone Baby Gone actor Sean Malone is lucky to be alive after nearly drowning at a South Boston beach. The Boston Globe reported that the 54-year-old Massachusetts resident swam a little too far out in beach waters on Monday, July 20, and had to be rescued by off-duty firefighter Chris Flaherty.
Realizing Malone might be in trouble, the Boston firefighter paddleboarded out to the actor and got him into a nearby boat driven by Milton, Mass., teens John Feeney, Joey Binda, and Elliott Chauvet.
Ryan Long and Andrew Lane, two other off-duty firefighters who were working out with Flaherty near the beach, met the boaters at the shore to assist with CPR and chest compressions. Flaherty didn't realize until later that he knows Malone's brother, Scott, one of Boston's deputy fire chiefs.
Malone is currently in critical condition. "I'm really glad that nobody panicked. I'm just glad we got to rescue him," Binda, one of the teenage boaters, told the Globe. "It brought me and my friends a lot closer. It's kind of awesome that we saved a guy's life."
