Gwyneth Paltrow Surprises amfAR Gala Crowd With Chris Martin

Gwyneth Paltrow
Gwyneth Paltrow surprised guests at the amfAR Inspiration Gala by introducing husband Chris Martin as a special performer

This conscious uncoupling continues to be the most amicable split ever. Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Marin showcased their platonic love for one another… just days after the singer's recent breakup with Jennifer Lawrence.

Paltrow hosted the 2014 amfAR L.A. Inspiration Gala at Milk Studios in Hollywood which honored Tom Ford, and she undoubtedly got by out a little help from her friends.

"I was very inspired by everyone's efforts to make tonight a success and to continue to support amfAR's crucial work, so I called an old friend who loves Tom as much as I do, to see if a surprise performance might be in order," Paltrow – clad in a double-breasted wool tuxedo jacket and flared trousers from Ford's Spring/Summer 2015 collection – said to the crowd. "This brilliant singer-songwriter has sold 80 million records and won every single award that there is to be won, especially father of the year, which has been won consecutively since 2004. And speaking of Chris Martin and the incredibly talented Johnny Buckland, who together make up one half of the incredibly talented Coldplay."

After Gwyneth welcomed her ex, he took the cheeky lingo from there.

"This is Justin Timberlake [pointing at himself], this is Justin Bieber [pointing at Buckland] and we play Coldplay covers," Martin declared as the audience roared. They proceeded to play "Paradise" and "Viva la Vida" for the crowd before sneaking off stage.

Even Sharon Stone gave a nod to Gwyneth and Chris's friendship.

"We thank you for your inner and outer beauty," Stone told Paltrow when she took the stage, "which you demonstrated by the fact that you get along with your ex-husband."

After Chris's exit, Gwyneth hung at what can only be described as the cool kids' table. Rihanna, Tom Ford, Justin Timberlake, and Rita Wilson were all at Table 11 where Belvedere Vodka and Moet Hennessy flowed: It was hard to find a star that wasn't there except for Miley Cyrus. She was one table away sitting with her mom, Tish, and a whole lot of eyes. Luckily, this meant both tables could outbid each other in the charity auction and thus raise a ton of money for a worthy cause.

Rihanna spent $35,000 on Harry Winston diamond jewelry and $100,000 on the photograph “Elizabeth Taylor at the Eden Roc” by Willy Rizzo, signed and numbered by the artist. "I want that s–t," the "Diamonds" singer professed. "Yeah," Tom kissed her on the cheek before she walked away a winner.

Of course, the biggest winner of the night was the organization that would benefit from all this fundraising: amfAR, a foundation for AIDS research. Learn more about their work here.
