We see you, girl. Halsey subtly shaded the Chainsmokers via Instagram on Monday, November 21, after the “Closer” collaborators seemingly got into a social media spat over Lady Gaga.
The drama began when the Chainsmokers’ Drew Taggart and Alex Pall slammed Gaga’s song “Perfect Illusion” during an October 11 interview with Rolling Stone. “It sucks,” Pall said of the track.
Days later, Mother Monster, 30, fired back shortly after releasing “A-Yo,” the latest single from her fifth studio album, Joanne. “#AYO @TheChainsmokers maybe u guys’ll like this 1 better,” she wrote on Twitter October 19.
Halsey, 22, who recorded hit duet “Closer” with Chainsmokers’ Taggart responded to Gaga’s clapback by calling her an “icon” and one of her “greatest idols” on Twitter.
Hours later, a screenshot of a since-deleted tweet from Taggart, 26, seemingly lashing out at Halsey and saying, “F‑‑k you bald bitch,” made its way online. While fans assumed the message was aimed at Halsey after she took Gaga’s side, Taggart told fans that the image was manipulated and then claimed that his account was hacked.
“Guys calm down my account was hacked. I would NEVER tweet anything glide that to one of my friends,” he wrote on Twitter on October 18.
Since then, the “Ghost” songstress has taken the high road. She agreed to perform “Closer” — which held the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for a whopping 12 weeks — at the 2016 American Music Awards on Sunday, November 20. Though she happily posed for pics with the outspoken duo at the awards ceremony, Halsey’s Instagram page appeared to reference Taggart’s Twitter dis.
“I love my dumb bald head 💘,” she captioned a photo of herself — and her neatly buzzed hairdo — slaying the American Music Awards red carpet.
She then posted a photo of herself and Gaga locked in a warm embrace. “Life made,” she wrote alongside the snap.
