Get ready for lots of table-flipping, wig-snatching and wine-throwing! Comedians Casey Wilson, Kristen Schaal, Angela Kinsey, Andrea Savage, Tymberlee Hill, and Danielle Schneider have taken it upon themselves to spoof some of our favorite Real Housewives stars in new parody sitcom Hotwives of Orlando and, by all accounts, it’s a labor or fangirl love!
“We thought of it [for] forever and then Paul Scheer, our executive producer, came to us and said, ‘I know you’re super fans and comedians and great writers would you be interested?’ And we said, ‘This is a dream come true! When can we start?'” Schneider, who co-created the show, tells Us Weekly of how the Hulu-streaming show came together.
The hilarious spoof features characters that take on Bravo personas like the trophy wife, the bankrupt overspender, the entrepreneur, the cougar, the religious zealot, and the drug addled former child star. (Devoted viewers will spot the spirits of Gretchen Rossi, Kim Richards, Teresa Giudice and Lisa Vanderpump and other standouts as reimagined on the show.)
“We had these stereotypes we wanted to [do],” the funnywomen tell Us, “We did a lot of combining because there’s … so many franchises.”
As for why the ladies chose Orlando as their city, they joked, “When we were writing it, we were like, ‘What is the best slash worst place ever?’ And we came up with Orlando! … It’s a bunch of new money there … it represents what the Housewives represent—new money, things cheaply made.”
While it’s been a “dream” of theirs to create the hilarious show, the ladies say the best part of working together on the sitcom—aside from getting to “work together”—was the chance to “blow it out and be as crazy and raunchy and ridiculous as we could possibly be.”
