Forever in her heart. Iman took to Instagram on Monday, June 6, to pay tribute to her late husband, David Bowie, on what would have been their 24th wedding anniversary.
“June 6th…., 24th wedding anniversary,” the supermodel, 60, captioned a stunning black-and-white photo of herself and Bowie from their wedding day, which was featured in a past issue of Vogue. “#foreverlove.”
As Us Weekly previously reported, the “Space Oddity” rockstar died on January 10 at age 69 in New York City, after a two-year battle with liver cancer. Iman was “torn apart,” a source close to the couple told Us at the time of the iconic musician’s death.
“They were romantic until the end,” a second insider told Us of the pair. “They made time for date nights. He would write her letters and poems. It was like they were still young lovers.”
The two first met in 1990 after Bowie’s hairdresser set them up. In 1992, Iman and Bowie tied the knot in a stunning ceremony in Switzerland. While they struggled for seven years to get pregnant, they finally welcomed daughter Lexi in August 2000.
In an interview taped before Bowie passed away, for an episode of Oprah: Where Are They Now, the Somalia-born beauty opened up about her more than quarter-of-a-century-long romance with the Grammy winner:
“You have to be at the right time in your life that you’re ready for an everlasting relationship, that it becomes first and a priority in your life,” she said of what made their marriage work. “If your career is important to you, don’t get married and have children, because something will give. I know we as women, we want to be able to have it all, but we can’t have it all at the same time. So make your priority of what you want at that time.”
