Influencer Michael Flores’ 5-year-old niece, Laia Nazaret, has died after a drowning incident.
Nazaret died after drowning in a pool in Salinas, Puerto Rico, on Sunday, June 7, a spokesperson for the Puerto Rico Police’s Guayama Command confirmed to People on Thursday, June 11. While police did not identify the victim by name, Flores, 27, confirmed it was his niece in a statement shared via Facebook.
“With deep sorrow, and on behalf of the artist Michael Flores and his family, we confirm the passing of little Laia Nazaret this past Sunday,” read the translated Tuesday, June 9, statement, which was signed by Flores’ manager. “There are no words to describe the void left by her departure, nor the pain the entire family is enduring at this time.”
The statement continued, “The artist and his family are in mourning, and the authorities are conducting the necessary investigation. Out of respect for that process and the family’s grief, we respectfully ask that their loved ones be allowed to experience this time in private, and that speculation and the dissemination of unconfirmed information be avoided while the matter follows its official course.”
Flores’ manager concluded, “We sincerely appreciate the expressions of affection, prayers, and support that the artist and his family have received from colleagues, friends and the general public. Any further information will be shared, in due course, exclusively through the artist’s official channels and this office. We pray to God for strength for the family and eternal rest for Laia.”
According to the Guayama Command’s spokesperson, Nazaret drowned while Flores was allegedly filming a music video. She was taken to Sur Medical Center in Salinas by a family member. Police are speaking to members of the child’s family as part of the investigation into her death.
Flores, who is a Puerto Rican musician and influencer, has more than 4.4 million across Instagram and Facebook. In his latest Instagram post on Monday, June 8, the content creator shared a photo of himself sitting in a field and wrote, “GOD GIVE ME ONE MORE SECOND ONE MORE MINUTE PLEASE 💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔.”
Flores also mourned Nazaret’s death in a post on Facebook.
“I TRIED WITH MY HEART WITH ALL MY STRENGTH TO SAVE YOUR LIFE …… I hope when we meet in eternal life you forgive me,” he wrote.
