While Teddy Swims spends much of his life on the road, the Grammy-nominated singer knows exactly what he wants waiting for him once he gets back home.

“As somebody who’s always been into designing and dressing and making my own home something that feels like not so run-of-the-mill, I think it’s really fun to be in this with them designing rooms,” Swims, 34, exclusively told Us of his approach to creating a comfortable space after the singer was named Ashley’s first Chief Mood Officer as part of the home furnishing retailer’s Ashley Luxe campaign.

“I’ve really had a blast kind of being a baby at it and getting my foot in the new door creatively,” the singer added.

One look at Swims, and it’s quite clear that simplicity has never exactly been the singer’s thing. That same eye for the unexpected carries into his design vision within his Tennessee home, which Swims says swings between a mix of “gothic” and “western” feel.

“It’s kind of classy, but with a punk edginess to it,” he said of his home aesthetic. “It’s got this ruggedness to it, but still very classy and smooth.”

While the creatively inclined cool guy certainly has an eye for aesthetics, comfort and connection take top priority in his own home, which means plenty of seating for guests and a dining room table where everyone can pull up a chair and gather.

“I think that I would be OK if my very last dollar was ever spent on sitting comfortably and eating good food with good people that I love,” he said. “[It’s] never a waste of money; the best way I can spend money is doing it the right way with the people I love.”

Lately, those creature comforts feel all the more important for someone who spends so much time away from them. The “Lose Control” singer just kicked off his debut arena run, the UGLY Tour, following a stretch that recently included a melancholic tribute to late singer George Michael alongside fellow artists Sombr, RAYE and Adam Lambert.

All that time spent away from a sprawling sectional and on a stage has only made the singer more particular about what awaits him back in Tennessee. As for what makes the cut in his own home, Swims says he’s taken a particular liking to Ashley’s Modero collection — including, true to his rugged-meets-refined taste, a big brown leather couch.

“I want to get loads of people sitting with me and be able to, you know, [have] a good space [where]we can all wine and dine together,” he told Us. “I think for me, leather is always the option.”

Swims has an even better argument for combining aesthetics with practicality these days, courtesy of his now-toddler running around the house.

“As somebody with a 15-month-old, leather, I find is the best thing,” he shared. “It’s not so easy to be ruined,” he joked before acknowledging that his son may eventually prove otherwise. “Nothing’s gonna last around him in a couple years.”

Since welcoming his son in June 2025, who he shares with singer-songwriter ex-girlfriend Raiche Wright, the “Mr. Know It All” singer has been balancing first-time fatherhood with a demanding touring schedule, bringing his son along as he travels from city to city across North America.

“Home can be anywhere where he is at this point,” Swims told Us. “It’s definitely changed my whole perspective on what creating a place feels like for him to be having some consistency, because as we move around a lot, it’s always such a relief to be home and be together again.”

To accommodate life for a toddler growing up on the road, Swims has discovered that familiarity can live in the smallest details. The singer says that creating an essential sense of comfort can be as simple as how a place feels, or even the scent a space can carry.

“As I’m kind of dragging him all over the world, it’s always nice to have the right feel and the right smell when you walk in the door,” Swims said. “I want him to get home and be so excited that we’re home.”

As much as the singer is focused on making each new stop a little more familiar for his son, he is also discovering his own role as a dad, becoming a lot more hands-on and noting his toddler’s newfound love for playtime.

“I feel like my job has finally really kicked in, because for so long Mom has [had] the monopoly on feeding and everything, and I was just trying to be supportive as I could,” he told Us. “Now I get the chance to be the dad,” he continued. “It’s getting amazing.”
