There are two sides to every story, and Jack White is ready for his to be heard.
The rocker has slammed allegations made by his estranged wife, model and singer Karen Elson, during their ongoing divorce dispute and custody battle. After news that she had won a restraining order against him hit the Internet last week, he filed his own legal documents in response on Friday.
"Mr. White vehemently denies Ms. Elson's allegation that she is fearful for her safety, as well as the safety of the parties' two minor children," an attorney for the "Blunderbuss" singer, 38, wrote in papers filed in Nashville, where the soon-to-be exes, who memorably had a divorce party, live.
As way of proof, emails between White and Elson — who are parents to Scarlett, 7, and Henry Lee, almost 6 — were cited. In one, written in May, she calls him an "amazing father" and says she's "so glad we had these kids together." Additionally, the lawyer noted that the 34-year-old mom left the children with White for 10 days in July after signing the petition to get a restraining order against him.
"One who was truly fearful of another would not leave their children alone with that person for 10 days," the papers note.
The lawyer also suggests Elson has been in violation of the couple's custody agreement, keeping the children in Europe for five additional days when they should have been transferred to White's care. Elson's request that White undergo a psychological evaluation is questioned, noting there is "no basis, whatsoever" for the former White Stripes singer to have one.
White's legal team also hints that heartbreak might be behind the animosity between White and Elson, who married in 2005 and announced they were divorcing in 2011. The documents state Elson told a mutual friend that she is still in love with White and would "move back in tomorrow if he asked me."
No doubt the he said, she said dispute will continue while they try to hash out the settlement of their divorce, which is still pending despite being filed in September 2012.
White and Elson are scheduled to be in a Nashville court on August 29 to take the next steps in their custody dispute.
