Broadway Pays Tribute to Prince: Jennifer Hudson, ‘Hamilton’ Cast Perform ‘Purple Rain,’ ‘Let’s Go Crazy’

Remembered everywhere. Broadway stars paid amazing musical tributes to the late musician Prince on Thursday, April 21, with Jennifer Hudson and the cast of The Color Purple, and the Hamilton cast, both performing renditions of the iconic artist’s famous songs. Hudson, 34, spoke to the audience at the end of her Broadway show, to share a personal story about Prince, who was found dead earlier that day at his Paisley Park studio, at the age of 57.

The entire cast then took part in an emotional and rousing rendition of “Purple Rain,” with Hudson performing a totally awesome and heartfelt solo.

Around the block, the Hamilton cast were also taking the opportunity to remember the legendary and truly unique performer, ending their show with an exuberant dance set to his classic hit, “Let’s Go Crazy.”

Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda had taken to Twitter earlier in the day to express his sadness at the news of Prince’s passing.

“Step away from your computer. Walk around, blast some Prince. It’s the only thing that has saved my day, it may save yours.”

Hudson took to Twitter after her performance to share some videos of her performance.

“We all sing together after all prince has truly touched us all!” she wrote.
