Jennifer Lopez Insists There’s No Feud With Mariah Carey on ‘WWHL’

She didn’t plead the fifth. On the Monday, February 29, episode of Watch What Happens Live, Jennifer Lopez candidly addressed her long-rumored feud with fellow pop diva Mariah Carey.

When show host Andy Cohen questioned Lopez, 46, about her current relationship with Carey, he casually mentioned the time Lopez was caught texting during Carey’s performance at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards. The “Jenny From the Block” songstress was quick to defend herself.

“There isn’t [a feud]. I’ll tell you why. Let me tell you something. OK, first of all, that was not fair with the texting thing because I watched a lot of it,” Lopez told Cohen, 47. “It was a long performance, OK? I watched most of it.”

“I may have looked down for one second, and people were like, ‘Look at her! Look at her!’” the multi-hyphenate continued. “So not fair. So not fair. I was watching her the whole time.”

That’s when Cohen reminded Lopez (who recently launched her own Las Vegas residency concert, All I Have) that while she’s made time to see Britney Spears‘ and Shania Twain’s shows in Sin City, she has yet to attend one of Carey’s.

“Well, you have to realize, I think last year when it started, I was already here in New York filming Shades of Blue and doing [American] Idol on the weekends,” the busy mom of twins Max and Emme explained. “I didn’t have a lot of free time! And I started preparing my own [Vegas show]. You know, I don’t think there’s been a time where I could have seen it.”

Although her work commitments haven’t allowed her to take a seat at the Mariah #1 To Infinity spectacle, Lopez is still open to buying a ticket at some point: “Would I want to? Yeah, I wanna see it. Why not?”

The pair’s rumored feud dates back to the early-aughts, when Carey’s ex-husband Tommy Mottola reportedly offered material she’d selected for her Glitter soundtrack to Lopez after she’d left his label.

Lopez revealed she is actually a huge fan of Mimi’s music during a 2015 appearance on WWHL: “I would love to meet her, and I would love to be friends with her. I think she’s incredibly talented, and I’ve always been a fan of hers. ‘My All’ is one of my favorite songs of all time. I just love her. It saddens me to hear anything that’s negative because I’m a fan of hers.”
