It’s official! Jessica Lange is leaving American Horror Story.
The 65-year-old actress confirmed on Sunday, March 15 that she will not be returning for the hit FX anthology series’ fifth season.
The Emmy winner made the announcement at PaleyFest after repeated questions by the moderator, eventually confirming that Ryan Murphy‘s hugely popular show will continue next season without her.
“I’m done,” Lange told the crowd. “We’ve had a great run here. I have absolutely loved doing these four characters that I’ve had the opportunity to play, and in all madness, I love the writers and Ryan and the insanity of shooting it,” she said.
“I’ve done four great characters,” she continued before adding, finally, “it’s enough.”
While Lange won’t be around for the fifth season, American Horror Story: Hotel will have some stellar cast members, including Lady Gaga, who announced her role last month.
Other stars to fill the gap Lange will leave behind include Matt Bomer and Cheyenne Jackson, who took to the stage at PaleyFest to announce they had joined the cast of the anthology series.
Bomer, who made a gruesome guest appearance in Freak Show as a gay bar employee who survives despite being stabbed and dismembered, expressed his excitement at becoming a series regular via Twitter last night.
“So excited to join the incredible cast of @AHSFX,” he wrote. “Ready to tell some stories with @ladygaga. See you at the front desk!”
American Horror Story: Hotel is set to premiere in October.
