Run Joey, run! New Kids on the Block frontman Joey McIntyre reps his hometown of Boston more than almost any other celebrity, so it was only fitting that the ’90s heartthrob partook in this year’s emotional marathon, especially after he witnessed last year’s bombing.
Five minutes after he crossed the finish line in 2013, the bombs exploded in Boston, killing three people and injuring around 260. McIntyre talked to Access Hollywood at the time, explaining, “I was about 150 yards away, so I heard the explosion and everything.”
Determined to return this year, McIntyre successfully crossed the finish line, writing “3:48:11 baby!!! #BostonMarathon . Couldn’t have done it without you guys!! Big congrats 4 an amazing 3:50 by my man @dannywood! #celebrate.”
Days before his marathon run, The Heat actor posted about the journey on his tumblr.
“My heart keeps growing for this town,” the Boston native said of his city. “It’s such a privilege to be a part of this town. This race. This comeback. This home. Thank for helping me get here.”
