Soccer star Jorginho Frello has shared an update on the viral incident between his stepdaughter, Ada, and Chappell Roan’s security guard.

“I want to update you all on what happened during the Lolla weekend,” Frello, 34, wrote in a statement shared via his Instagram Story on Monday, April 13. “Over the past few weeks, a lot has been said, and now that new information has come to light, I felt it was important to set the record straight.”

Frello continued, “I issued my initial statement in the heat of the moment, after learning that my daughter and my wife had been approached in an intimidating manner by a security guard. I reacted the way any father would. My priority is, and always will be, protecting my family — and that is exactly what I did.”

Back in March, Frello made headlines when he claimed that his 11-year-old stepdaughter — his wife Cat Cavelli’s daughter with ex Jude Law — had an upsetting interaction with one of Roan’s security guards. (Cavelli, 34, and Ada were staying at the same hotel as Roan, 28, ahead of her headline slot at Lollapalooza Brazil.)

At the time, Frello alleged via social media that his stepdaughter walked past Roan’s table during the hotel’s breakfast and smiled at the singer but did not approach her. A security guard then allegedly approached Cavelli’s table and “began speaking in an extremely aggressive manner to both my wife and my daughter, saying that she shouldn’t allow my daughter to ‘disrespect’ or ‘harass’ other people.”

“My daughter was extremely shaken and cried a lot,” Frello added.

Roan responded to the claims via her Instagram Stories, sharing that she “did not see a woman and a child” and did not ask security to “go up and talk” to the family.

In his update on Monday, Frello reiterated that the “situation unfolded exactly as it was originally described.”

“At the time, we acted based on the information we had available to us in that moment,” he continued. “Since then, I have become aware of new information that has shifted my understanding of certain aspects of the incident.”

Frello noted that, in addition to addressing the incident publicly, Roan reached out privately to his wife.

“It became clear that she had no knowledge of what took place at breakfast and that she had not asked anyone to approach them. She demonstrated understanding and solidarity regarding what happened to our daughter,” he explained.

The security guard in question, Pascal Duvier, broke his silence days after the incident, explaining that he was at the hotel “on behalf of another individual,” not Roan.

“I made a judgment call based on information we obtained from the hotel, events I had witnessed in the days prior and the heightened overall security risk of our location,” Duvier wrote in his statement. “My sole interaction with the mother was calm and with good intentions, and the outcome of the encounter is regretful.”

In light of Duvier’s statement, Frello said it has “become clear that he was not acting on Chappell’s behalf.”

“Ultimately, it was a misunderstanding in this regard, and I am happy to set the record straight. It is important to me that this matter be clarified in a fair and accurate manner,” the athlete noted. “I regret the impact this situation has had on Chappell Roan, Catherine, Ada, and our family. What I will always stand up for is my family. However, I also know how to acknowledge when things were not exactly as they appeared at first glance.”

Frello concluded, “Thank you for the solidarity we have received during this sensitive time. I do, however, want to make one thing very clear: I do not condone hate speech or online attacks from any side. Respect, empathy, and humility are values that I uphold and that I teach my family every day. I consider this matter closed as far as I am concerned.”
