Penny problems.
Kaley Cuoco is experiencing marriage woes both on and off set. The actress’ Big Bang Theory character, Penny, has been arguing with her on-screen husband Leonard (Johnny Galecki) while, in real life, Cuoco has decided to end her 21-month marriage with husband Ryan Sweeting.
As previously reported, Cuoco, 29, listed the couple’s date of separation on Sept. 3 in her divorce petition, and cited irreconcilable differences. Penny and Leonard, meanwhile, aren’t splitting — in fact, they just got hitched — but they have been arguing since tying the knot in the Season 9 premiere.
Quick recap! Just before marrying, Leonard admitted to Penny that he once hooked up with his co-worker Mandy. Penny married him anyway, but gave him the silent treatment and questioned their union after returning home from Vegas. The fan favorite couple eventually made up, but producer Steven Molaro recently implied that it might be tough for them to adjust — with Sheldon. (Sheldon recently split from his longtime girlfriend Amy, played by Mayim Bialik.)
“Living arrangements are definitely going to be confronted in the first four episodes,” Molaro told The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s tricky, sure — Leonard and Penny need to move forward, but at the same time we have a broken-hearted Sheldon (Jim Parsons), who is sort of their little brother and child and it’s tough to ignore that for them.”
Oddly enough, both Cuoco and Penny also opted for pink wedding dresses on their big days. “Last night I married my sweetheart,” Cuoco captioned an Instagram pic of the newlyweds on Dec. 31, 2013. She added in a second: “Greatest night of my entire life.” In November 2014, Cuoco recycled her Vera Wang wedding gown for her 2015 movie The Wedding Ringer. “I got to wear my wedding dress for a second time!” she captioned an Instagram pic in November 2014. “I feel giddy! #weddingringermusicvideo @aloeblacc @verawanggang.”
