Kanye West is a smart celebrity—according to Kanye West. Based on a transcript obtained by TMZ, the rapper made this comment during his deposition in the case where he was accused of hitting a photographer at LAX last July.
"I'm in the business of trying to make dope s–t for the world. You're in the business of representing scums and trying to make as much money as long as there's this lapse in the law," West, 37, said to the photographer's lawyer, Nate Goldberg.
According to documents, Kim Kardashian's husband also compared his fight with the paparazzi to the civil rights movement when he was asked about his song "Flashing Lights." When Goldberg recited a line, which used the n-word, West interrupted and said Goldberg needed to "ask for a hall pass" in order to use the word around him. "It offends me because you're a white person saying n—a," West said.
"I mean in the '60s people used to hold up 'Die N—-r' signs when my parents were in the sit-ins also," the rapper continued. When Goldberg asked if he was relating to the struggles of blacks in the past and celebrities today, he replied: "Yes, 100…I equate it to discrimination. I equate it to inequalities."
"We, as group of minorities here in L.A., as celebrities have to ban together to influence guys like this," he continued. "Guys trying to take the picture, guys trying to get the big win, guys trying to get the check."
To top it off, the "Bound 2" singer dissed one of the biggest music superstars during his testimony. "I'm the smartest celebrity you've ever f–ing dealt with," he said under oath. "I'm not Britney Spears."
