This might be Kanye West’s most entertaining feud yet — and that’s saying a lot! The rapper got into a Twitter battle with Deadmau5 after the DJ accused West of attempting to illegally download his synthesizer software, Serum.
It all started Tuesday, March 1, when West tweeted out a photo of his computer screen, which showed that he had a browser tab open to download Serum on piracy site The Pirate Bay.
"What the f–k @kanyewest … Can't afford serum? D–k,” Deadmau5, who is co-founder of the company that makes Serum, tweeted at the rapper. "Let's start a Kickstarter to help @kanyewest afford a copy of Serum.” (For the record, Serum costs $189; Deadmau5’s zinger referenced West’s previous Twitter claims about his supposed $53 million debt.)
West — who ironically has threatened a lawsuit against The Pirate Bay after his latest album The Life of Pablo was leaked — has yet to explain why he was on the site, but instead opted to (for our enjoyment) mock Deadmau5’s signature mouse headpiece.
“# ok very serious question…,” West tweeted on Wednesday, March 2. “# whose job is it to carry the head on the plane # hash tag # do you check the mickey mouse head or carry on # does it get hot? … # ok another super serious question … is there a portable fan situation?” he added, before things got real entertaining.
“# I’m bored ### when you get married will your wife have a giant minnie mouse head? # This brightened up my day… thank you dead-mow-five,” West continued, “Do you do birthday parties?? My daughter loves Minnie mouse…”
Despite the animosity, West and Deadmau5, whose real name is Joel Thomas Zimmerman, are both founding members of Tidal.
