It’s about time, Yeezy! Kanye West joined Instagram on Sunday, September 18, and shared his first photo shortly afterward, finally joining the ranks of his wife Kim Kardashian and the rest of the Kardashian-Jenner clan.
For his first post, West, 39, kept things simple with a screenshot from a scene from 1990 flick Total Recall, which stars Arnold Schwarzenegger. (The action film was later remade in a much-panned 2012 version starring Colin Farrell.)
The story line of the science fiction action film revolves around a construction worker (Schwarzenegger) who keeps having disturbing dreams about Mars and a mysterious woman there.
As of Sunday morning, the rapper had already amassed 431,000 followers, with more than 21,000 comments on his post.
Though West is a newcomer to Instagram, he has frequently made headlines with his Twitter account, where he posted some epic rants and apologies. Following the show for his Yeezy Season 4 fashion line earlier this month, West adopted a more subdued tone to address critics.
“It’s our life’s mission to create the most transformative experiences,” he wrote. “Each and every one’s time, insight and feelings are invaluable to us. We want to make people feel great. Thank you for embarking on this creative journey. With love and respect, Kanye West.”
Then, on Wednesday, September 14, the controversial rapper tweeted: “I got rid of my phone so I can have air to create.”
Kim and the rest of the Kardashian-Jenner clan have yet to publicly welcome West to the social media platform.
