Katie Holmes is determined to move forward with her life — and a big part of that is creating a comfortable, cozy, and happy home for six-year-old Suri Cruise.
On Monday afternoon — just hours after news broke that Holmes had reached a divorce settlement with Tom Cruise, and gained primary legal custody of their daughter — the Romantics actress and her little girl went shopping at a Pottery Barn in NYC.
"Katie hardly looked sad," an onlooker tells Us Weekly of the actress, 33. "[She] did some major shopping and bought a lot."
In fact, adds the eyewitness, "She seemed fine."
Since mid-June, Holmes has been leasing a $12,500-a-month apartment in NYC in her own name — a key step in her breaking free from her husband of five years, from whom she filed for divorce just two weeks later.
When it came time to settle on knick-knacks for their place together, it's likely the six-year-old had a say in her mom's decor decisions. Last August, the actress opened up to Marie Claire about her daughter's impeccable sense of style
"[Suri] has been choosing her own outfits since she was two. We go to fabric stores and sew together. Sometimes I take inspiration from Suri's fashion choices," she told the mag. "She is my style critic. I know I look good when Suri asks if she can have my outfit when she's older . . . she's quite an artist."
