After divorcing Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes is focusing on her career — as a fashion designer.
The 33-year-old actress will be debuting her clothing line, Holmes & Yang, at New York Fashion Week in September, the New York Post confirms. Holmes started her high fashion clothing line with her stylist Jeanne Yang in 2008. The line is currently sold at Barneys, but this will mark the first time the collection has been shown at Fashion Week, which runs from Sept. 6 through Sept. 13 at Lincoln Center.
"This is a big deal for Katie to show in the tents, under the full attention of the fashion editors and the glare of the media scrutiny," a source told the New York Post. "They could have done a small show elsewhere, so this proves she and Jeanne are very serious about their business."
The Dawson's Creek star's divorce from Cruise, 50, was finalized in NYC Monday. Holmes blindsided her husband of five years by filing for divorce on June 28. The former couple agreed that Holmes would receive primary custody of their daughter, Suri, 6.
Holmes told Elle in January 2011 that she gets her fashion advice from her well-heeled little girl. "She'll really tell me (what she thinks). Like today I'm wearing brown suede pants, and she said, 'I don't like your pants,'" Holmes told the magazine. "But then she'll say, 'You've got to wear these shoes.' Or, 'That's so pretty, Mom. Wear that.' She's got a great eye."
