Keith Urban is trying to stay strong. The country superstar revealed on Wednesday, Dec. 2, that his father, Robert Urban, has been placed in hospice care.
The “Little Bit of Everything” singer, 48, shared the personal news at his exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame.
“He’s probably only got a few weeks, if that. I’ve just been dealing with that the last couple of days. This has all come at a very strange time where it’s typical of a career that has extreme highs and extreme lows all often at the exact same time,” Urban told The Tennessean. “So [the exhibit] is bittersweet a little bit because [my dad] is the catalyst for all of this. My dad is the catalyst for me living in America.”
According to the paper, the New Zealand native tearfully browsed through the memorabilia he’s collected over the years, which includes instruments and family photos. He also shared that his dad thought it was important that he “dressed like a performer,” and recalled the time Robert encouraged him to buy a Don Williams album.
“I said, ‘How do you know it’s going to be good?’ He said, ‘It’s Don Williams,'” Nicole Kidman’s husband explained on Wednesday night. “It hit me in such a way that I thought, ‘I want to make those kinds of records, that people know are going to be solid and they go out and get it.’ I want to thank Dad for starting me on this journey.”
Last year, Kidman’s father, Dr. Antony Kidman, died at the age of 76 after falling at a Singapore hotel. Urban canceled some of his shows to support her during the difficult time. “Nicole is beside herself,” a source told Us. “Keith vowed to be with her as long as he needs to during this horrible time, and he is supporting his wife to the fullest.”
