Kendall Jenner: “I Grew Up Too Fast”

Kendall Jenner
In a column for WSJ Magazine, Kendall Jenner admits she may have grown up too quickly and is a workaholic

Members of the Kardashian-Jenner brood aren't exactly famous for their thoughtful self-reflection, but Kendall Jenner is proving that doesn't mean they can't take a step back and see that being raised in this media-loving family may have had negative repercussions.

"I feel like I grew up too fast a long time ago," the 19-year-old catwalk queen revealed in a special luminaries column in the Wall Street Journal's WSJ. Magazine. "Having older siblings, you grow up around adults, so you mature more quickly. I saw my sisters and parents working every day, so I was pretty much brought up to be a workaholic."

Indeed, the second-youngest child of Kris Jenner started appearing on the family's reality TV show when she was just 11 years old, has already been hard at work modeling for several years, and recently nabbed the coveted title of the new face of Estée Lauder. That's quite a résumé for a girl who still can't (legally) have a glass of champagne to celebrate.

Perhaps it's because she's had such success at such an early age that getting older already weighs heavily on the teen's mind — though she's not concerned about it for the reasons you might think.

"I just turned 19 a couple weeks ago, and I'm scared to be 20 — it's the first step out of being a teenager," she mused. "My sister Khloé always says to me and my younger sister, Kylie: You have your whole life to be an adult but only so long to be a kid. And we get it. In the right situations, I try to be as immature as I can sometimes — react to things as if I were 12. You can't take things too seriously."

Unlike many teenagers, Kendall is keenly aware that she won't be young forever, even if she does her best to stay lighthearted and immature.

"I just laugh thinking about my dad being a teenager, partying. It’s the funniest thing. And it makes me think — what am I going to be like when I'm 65?" she asked.

Oh, how we wish we had a crystal ball to see into the future! Still, we're pretty certain Kendall — and the rest of her family — will find plenty of ways to keep us entertained while we wait it out.
