Kendra Duggar is putting some distance between herself and her parents amid her and husband Joseph Duggar’s ongoing legal issues.
“Kendra is not communicating with her family. The Caldwells have left the home they were living in and all of their belongings are in storage,” a source exclusively tells Us Weekly. “They are still working out what their next steps will be. It has been an extremely stressful time especially given the circumstances.”
Kendra is the eldest daughter of Paul and Christina Caldwell. She has eight siblings: Lauren, Micah, Nathan, Timothy, Olivia, Jesiah, Isaiah and Moriah.
“Relocating is always difficult, especially with a large family and the stress they are under,” the source explains. “They are considering a move out of state. Paul is looking for work to support the family because he had to leave his job.”
Last month, Paul revealed that he and his family had lost their most recent housing situation and employment after Joseph’s arrest. The Counting On alum was charged with lewd and lascivious behavior involving molestation of a victim less than 12 years old and lewd and lascivious behavior conducted by a person 18 years or older in March. Joseph has since pleaded not guilty to the charges. He was released from jail in late March after posting $600,000 bail.
The family’s top “priority right now is to support” Joseph’s alleged victim, per the insider.
The source adds that the Caldwells “want to distance themselves from the Duggars as much as possible, but it hurts them to be cut off by Kendra.” Before moving out of their home, “the utilities were cut off and the family felt unsafe.”
“More than anything they want to feel safe and start over and to enter counseling to heal,” the insider tells Us.
Us has reached out to the Caldwells and Duggars’ respective spokespersons for comment.
In addition to Joseph’s molestation case, he and Kendra were both charged with four counts of endangering the welfare of a minor and four counts of false imprisonment. Kendra was arrested and posted bail the same day. The couple’s endangerment case is unrelated to the molestation allegations.
Amid Kendra and Joseph’s legal woes, Kendra’s father created a GoFundMe page to raise money for “displacement fees.”
“My family is facing a difficult and urgent situation. We are in need to cover displacement expenses,” Paul wrote in the fundraiser’s initial message. “We will not be using these funds for [our] legal expenses.”
