Kim Kardashian cannot ignore the chatter from some people who speculate she may one day run for political office.
“People ask me all the time,” Kardashian, 46, told journalist Jonathan Van Meter in his new book Citizen Kim: The Women Who Created the Future. “I mean, the amount of people who wrote to me after [Joe] Biden’s disastrous debate? The fact that you guys think I’m capable of this? I am so flattered.”
Before she asks for anyone’s vote, however, Kardashian said she has some things on her to-do list that need to be accomplished first.
“I think that, No. 1, I have to pass the bar and become a lawyer first,” she continued. “And if you do run for office, you really can’t own and run a company. And I love Skims and what we’ve built. That is my focus.”
Skims was cofounded by Kardashian in June 2019 and has grown into a top-selling shapewear and clothing brand. The company is valued at approximately $5 billion and now includes shoes, slippers, bags, hair accessories and more.
“I definitely need some time,” Kardashian added. “But we have time.”
Perhaps one of those friends who wouldn’t be surprised if The Kardashians star entered political office is Van Jones.
A mentor and friend throughout Kardashian’s journey to becoming a lawyer, Jones, 58, predicts the businesswoman will one day open a law firm with a criminal justice reform pro bono aspect.
“And I’m sure it will be one of the most sought out and successful law firms in the country because she’s Kim Kardashian. She’s not going to not pass the bar ultimately. She’s not going to not become an attorney,” Jones said in Citizen Kim. “And then at some point, when you’re from the most famous family in the country, when you have the most famous name in the world and you’ve done great work, and now you’re not 41, but 51, or 61, at some point, somebody says, ‘How come you’re not a senator? How come you’re not the governor of California?’”
Kardashian and her inner circle were interviewed by Van Meter over the course of nearly 10 years for an in-depth biography called Citizen Kim.
When Kardashian asked Van Meter about the title of the book, he explained the significance.
“In this story, you are the mogul and the muse; you are the billionaire and the pretty young thing,” he wrote in the book’s prologue. “You don’t need a rich guy, because you’re the rich guy — Citizen Kim.”
Citizen Kim: The Woman Who Created the Future is available in stores Tuesday, October 27.
