Larry Wilmore Skewers Dentist Who Killed Cecil the Lion: “A–hole DDS”

Another enemy. Larry Wilmore added his voice to the chorus of criticism against Walter J. Palmer, the dentist who killed Cecil the Lion, taking him to task during The Nightly Show on Wednesday, July 29.

The Comedy Central host skewered Palmer as an "a—hole DDS" and took a jab at his profession. "Did you say the hunter was a dentist? As if people needed another reason to be scared of them," Wilmore, 53, said. "Four out of five dentists recommend Crest. I guess the fifth was too busy murdering lions to take the poll."

Palmer paid $55,000 to hunt the Zimbabwean lion, who was a local favorite and had been a part of a study at Oxford University. The Minnesota resident closed his dental office on Wednesday amid the outrage, while mourners left stuffed animal lions outside his door.

Of course, Wilmore isn't the only star to speak out about Cecil's death. Fellow late-night host Jimmy Kimmel also slammed Palmer for his actions. On Tuesday night, Kimmel got choked up while discussing the incident that has outraged so many. "Is it that difficult for you to get an erection? That you need to kill things that are stronger than you?" the comedian said, visibly emotional.

Palmer, for his part, has apologized for killing Cecil. "Everything about this trip was legal and properly handled and conducted," he told his patients in a letter, obtained by Fox9. "Again, I deeply regret that my pursuit of an activity I love and practice responsibly and legally resulted in the taking of this lion. That was never my intention."

PETA, however, believes that Palmer should be punished. "Hunting is a coward’s pastime," PETA President Ingrid Newkirk said in a statement to Us Weekly on Wednesday. "If, as has been reported, this dentist and his guides lured Cecil out of the park with food so as to shoot him on private property, because shooting him in the park would have been illegal, he needs to be extradited, charged, and, preferably, hanged."
