This girl's not a bride yet! Lena Dunham is not engaged to her boyfriend Jack Antonoff, she confirmed to Cosmopolitan.com on Monday, Jan. 5.
The Girls actress, 28, and the Bleachers singer/songwriter, 30, became the subject of engagement speculation after she had posted a photo of herself last week, in which she was wearing a suspicious stack of baubles on her left ring finger.
Dunham's best friend Jenni Konner (also the executive producer of Girls) chimed in on the matter at the season four premiere of the HBO show in NYC. "This is the most hilarious thing," Konner told Cosmopolitan.com. "We have friendship rings, they're a stack of three, we both wear them. We both wear them on that finger because that's the finger they fit on, and those are our friendship rings. When they announced that she was wearing an engagement ring, I was, like, 'Yeah, [she's engaged] … to me.'"
Dunham then quipped of her BFF: "Yeah! We're engaged to continue to work together for the rest of our lives." The Golden Globe winner revealed that Antonoff had indeed given her a gorgeous diamond ring, which the public overlooked because of its placement on her hand.
"I have a ring that my boyfriend gave me that I wear on my right hand," the actress noted, "which, like, clearly no one gives a s— about… And everyone was, like, 'Let's ignore that diamond and focus on this stack of three rings.' But, yeah, it is very funny."
Antonoff, meanwhile, received a friendly phone call from his mother regarding his faux engagement news. "He was, like, 'My mom called asking if we were engaged?'" Dunham recalled to Cosmopolitan.com. "She was like, on him. I also just want to say that if we were going to get engaged, we would be more creative than to do it on New Year's Eve. You don't want to be basic."
Her denial comes several months after she called the fun. musician her "life partner." But Dunham said the two have a solid reason to delay that walk down the aisle.
"We're not against marriage," the star told Howard Stern last October.
"But I wanna wait until it's something—my sister's gay and it just doesn't feel good to me to do something she can't do," Dunham explained of her sister Grace, 22. "She can do it in some places but not all places."
