No rules necessary. Lily-Rose Depp opened up about her relaxed upbringing with famous parents Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis in a cover story interview for the December issue of Vogue U.K.
The 17-year-old model, who has never appeared on a Vogue cover until now, told the British edition of the fashion magazine that because her mom and dad didn’t lay down any stern rules during her adolescence, she never felt the need to rebel as a teenager.
“My parents weren’t very strict,” Lily-Rose said. “They’ve always trusted me to be independent and make my own decisions. There wasn’t really anything to rebel against.”
The Black Mass actor, 53, and Paradis, 43 — who never married and split in 2012 after 14 years together — maintain an amicable relationship. Though they didn’t offer their daughter too many strict rules, the famously tight-lipped former couple (who are also parents of son John Christopher, 14) did teach her about the importance of keeping your personal life private. In the age of social media, Lily-Rose has found this lesson to be particularly significant.
“I’ve really stopped using it in a personal way,” she explained of her Instagram use. “I never like revealing too much about myself. Once you start giving people that look into your life, then they just want more and more.”
However, the style muse couldn’t help but share her Vogue U.K. cover with her 2.2 million followers. “December @britishvogue cover shot by @bruce_weber ❤️!!!” she captioned an image of her gorgeous cover. “Thank you so much, such a dream come true! While she has made a concerted effort to keep her social media posts strictly business-related, Lily-Rose bent her own rules when she came to the defense of her father via Instagram this past May amid claims of domestic abuse during his contentious split from estranged wife Amber Heard.
