Ouch. Lindsay Lohan’s picturesque French Polynesian holiday came to a halt on Dec. 27 when she revealed to fans she’s suffering from Chikungunya, a rare, untreatable virus.
Leading up to Christmas Day, Lohan was thoroughly enjoying her vacation, sharing Instagram snaps of her gorgeous surroundings with captions like, “The purpose of our lives is to be happy. Dalai Lama #LifeHappyPurpose,” and “Pink sky at night, sailors delight.”
Things took a turn after the star wished her fans Merry Christmas, however. Sharing an equally stunning sunset photo of herself on a jet ski in the ocean, the 28-year-old star revealed to followers: "Before I got chikungunya. use [bug] spray please. God bless.”

According to the World Health Organization, Chikungunya is transmitted through mosquito bites and causes fever, joint paint, fatigue and a rash, and is sometimes mistaken for dengue. Unfortunately for LiLo, there is no cure and the joint pain can last for months.
The following day on Dec. 28, Lohan updated her fans, tweeting: “Being sick is no fun. But happy new year everyone. Be safe. Love all.”
Despite the health snafu, the troubled star appeared to be feeling better. “In good faith with good people. I refuse to let a virus [affect] my peaceful vacation be safe and happy on the new year all,” she captioned a selfie with friends later that day.
