Lisa Marie Presley has filed for divorce from her husband of more than 10 years, Michael Lockwood, Us Weekly can confirm.
Presley, 48, cited irreconcilable differences and lists the date of separation as June 13, according to TMZ, which was first to report the news.
Elvis Presley’s daughter is requesting full custody of the couple’s 7-year-old twin daughters, Finley and Harper, and asking that the musician, 55, only be allowed monitored visitation, TMZ reports. She is reportedly not seeking spousal support or child support, and the pair already have a postnuptial agreement to divide their assets, the website says.
The couple married in January 2006 in a traditional ceremony in Japan.
This will be Presley’s fourth divorce. She was previously married from 1988 to 1994 to Danny Keough, with whom she shares two children, Riley, 27, and Ben, 23. She was also famously married to Michael Jackson from 1994 to 1996 and to Nicolas Cage for a few months in 2002.
Presley opened up about her previous failed marriages in an interview with Marie Claire in 2007. “I had been really sheltered. I got married the first time very, very young. And the marriage I was in, there was so much resentment about who I was, because I had more than he did, and it became a power struggle. It is hard for a man to be with a woman who is stronger, wealthier. So in my mind I’m thinking, I know, I’ll get with someone more compatible,” she said of leaving Keough for Jackson, which she calls the “biggest mistake of [her] life” in the interview. “I wasn’t thinking what everyone else was thinking, which was that I must have been out of my f–king mind.”
As for her tumultuous three-month marriage to Cage, she said: “Marrying him was a wild flurry, a crazy idea and being young, and ‘Ahhh!’” But by 2007, she said, she was happy that she was finally married to her “best friend” Lockwood.
