They don’t belong together. Despite cheating rumors, Mariah Carey was not romantically involved with her backup dancer Bryan Tanaka leading up to her split from fiancé James Packer, a source tells Us Weekly.
“It wasn’t sexual,” the insider tells Us of Carey’s “close” bond with Tanaka — who danced for the singer in her Mariah #1 to Infinity Las Vegas residency and also on her Sweet Sweet Fantasy Tour. “She didn’t cheat.”
Indeed, a rep for the Mariah’s World star told Entertainment Tonight that the friction between her and Packer was “not because of any cheating allegations.”
The source claims, however, that Packer did wonder why Tanaka “was always hanging around when he wasn’t working.”
As previously reported on Thursday, October 27, the billionaire and the “Fantasy” singer split after they got into a fight during a recent vacation.
“Mariah and James had a fight in Greece and have not seen each other since,” Carey’s rep told Entertainment Tonight. “The fight was not because of any cheating allegations or excessive spending by Mariah. James is one of the most successful businessmen in the world. They are trying to work it out. Right now, they’re not sure if they will stay together. They are discussing it and plan to release an official statement together about their future.”
Amid the breakup news, the five-time Grammy winner — who accepted a proposal from Packer back in January — canceled her upcoming South American tour dates.
“Devastated my shows in Chile, Argentina & Brazil had to be cancelled,” she tweeted on Tuesday, October 25. “My fans deserve better than how some of these promoters treated them.”
Carey was previously married to Nick Cannon, but they split in August 2014 after six years of marriage. They share 5-year-old twins Moroccan and Monroe. Carey was also once wed to music exec Tommy Mottola from 1993 to 1998.
