Her image lives on. Mick Jagger paid tribute to his late girlfriend, fashion designer L’Wren Scott, via Instagram on Thursday, April 28. She would have turned 52.
“Remembering L’Wren on her birthday,” Jagger, 72, captioned the stunning shot, in which Scott stares over her shoulder at the camera while posing in front of a sunset, a camera in her hand.
The iconic musician’s caption is a subtle nod to his Twitter post from last year, in which he similarly shared an old photograph of the designer on her birthday.
The death of the famed designer stunned the fashion world on March 17, 2014, when Scott’s assistant found her body in her Manhattan apartment. Scott had died of an apparent suicide just shy of her 50th birthday.
The pair had been dating for 13 years, and Jagger revealed that he, too, was shocked by her death.
“I am still struggling to understand how my lover and best friend could end her life in this tragic way,” he wrote in a post to Facebook on March 18, 2014. “We spent many wonderful years together and had made a great life for ourselves. She had great presence and her talent was much admired, not least by me.”
This year, Jagger spent L’Wren’s would-be birthday performing with the Rolling Stones before 60,000 fans in Mexico City.
And in the two years that have since passed, the rocker told The Mirror, he has learned to cope with his loss in various ways.
“I don’t find it difficult emotionally to wear her clothes. In fact, it’s quite nice for me,” he told the publication. “I’ve got a big selection of her stuff and the wardrobe mistress goes nuts because I always want to bring them all on tour. At the end of the day I just pick them up and go: ‘Ah that’s one of L’Wren’s … I like this one.’”
