Morgan Freeman’s Goddaughter’s Stabbing: Man Arrested on Murder Charge

Morgan Freeman's goddaughter E'Dena Hines was fatally stabbed in NYC on Aug. 16.

Thirty-year-old Lamar Davenport has been arrested in the stabbing of E’Dena Hines, the goddaughter of actor Morgan Freeman. The Associated Press reports that police say Davenport was in a relationship with Hines at the time of her death on Aug. 16.

Hines, who was 33 when she was fatally stabbed, was the granddaughter of Freeman’s first wife, Jeanette Adair Bradshaw, but has been reported as being his goddaughter, granddaughter, and step-granddaughter. She was found in the street in front of her apartment in the Washington Heights neighborhood of uptown Manhattan.

Initial reports said that Davenport was taken to Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center to undergo psychiatric evaluation after he was found kneeling over Hines’ body. 

Hines, who studied acting and was involved with teaching urban youth, was taken to Harlem Hospital and was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Shortly after news of her passing broke, Freeman released the statement: "The world will never know her artistry and talent, and how much she had to offer," Freeman said in a statement. "Her friends and family were fortunate enough to have known what she meant as a person. Her star will continue to shine bright in our hearts, thoughts and prayers. May she rest in peace."
